Land of the Rhino in India

Kaziranga is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a declared Tiger Reserve as well as an Elephant Reserve. It is a prime area of biodiversity and the waters of the Brahmapatura River which feed the alluvial grasslands is the life-support system of the Park. 2000 Greater One Horned Rhinos are protected fiercely here, which garners large interest from Wildlife enthusiasts and Nature Lovers.

The habitat is mainly comprised of Grasslands with huge marshland tracts, well-wooded Semi-Evergreen to Evergreen Forests.

Long Elephant Grass, short grasses, Swamps & Marsh, Oxbow Lakes, Alluvial Savanna Woodlands, Tropical Moist Deciduous Forest & Tropical Evergreen Forest characterise the landscape in particular.

The Diphlu, Mora Diphlu, & Mora Dhansiri Rivers which pass through the park forming the basis of all life in this region.

With over 500 species occurring here, Kaziranga has been classified as an Important Bird Area(IBA) for Birdlife International and birding trips are fruitful, along with potential sightings of the Big 5 of India : Rhino, Elephant, Asiatic Water Buffalo, Swamp Deer & Tiger.
